Weekend to-do-list: June 19-21

Already finished exams? Looking for an excuse to procrastinate? Wondering what could possibly be better than sitting at home in track pants and a hoodie, watching a TV series on DVD for the umpteenth time this weekend? Allow me to entice you….

On Friday we have garage post-punk band Idle Cranes doing their thing at Rics. At the Globe five piece band Bic Benedict are on a voyager mission supported by Princess Rodeo, The Estates, Boss Level Monster, and it’s only $12 people.

So Underbelly marathon still calling? Here’s what we have on Saturday. Dead people. If you enjoy your music served up with a little horror and fake blood is your war paint of choice then get your zombie on (dress up as a dead guy) and get yourself to The Jubilee for The Dead of Winter Festival. This an 11 hour event with a truck load of bands including Mz. Ann Thropik, Psych Carni, Hell City Glamours, Humonic feat. Matt Skitz from Damaged to name just a few. Head to www.myspace.com/deadofwinterfestival for the full line-up and more information.

If fake blood isn’t your cup of tea you might want to head to Fat Louies to listen to These Hands Could Separate the Sky from Melbourne, To the North and Willows rock out or to Thriller at Rosies to catch City Escape and Vampirates.

If you’re under 18 but don’t want to miss out on The Dead of Winter Festival, there is a sideshow on Sunday at The Fort that is all ages featuring some of the very bands from Saturday’s festivities. For everyone else, The Powerhouse is the place to be on Sunday. If you’re a musician itching to showcase some of your stuff Fete De La Musique is the event for you. This a rad day of free music where anyone interested in music is given the chance to get up and have a go. Sunday is also the last chance to catch Judith Lucy at The Powerhouse, so why not stick around for a chuckle.
