As this year is our 35th birthday, we’re sifting through all our old photo albums and boxes, checking under the stairs, behind the couch and in the rafters in the hope of digging up all our old archives.

We’ve managed to find a fair few photos in the process but there are many faces who we just can’t seem to recognise. So we’ve uploaded the photos to Facebook (where would we be without it?) and we want you to help us pay tribute to all the hard working vollies who have made this station what it is!

Head to Triple Zed Brisbane to take a gander at the photos and start tagging people! If you have your own photos you’d like to share with us, send us a link or tag us. We’d love to see them.

On a much sadder note, our brilliant manager David finished up at Zed Towers on Friday. His British accent will definitely be missed by everyone here at the station.

EVENTS:

OK GO live Wednesday 17th February at The Hi Fi. The mind-bending band that gave us what is largely considered the decade’s most viewed music video (even the Simpsons parodied it), the treadmill-manned, Grammy-award winning “Here It Goes Again,” is back. Never content to rest on their laurels, OK Go return with the new album, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky. The album is the follow up to 2005’s Oh No and was produced by ex-Mercury Rev member David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT). Tix from www.thehifi.com.au or  www.ticketek.com.au.

ISIS are performing live in Brisbane this Thursday 18th February! Celebrating a twelve year career, ISIS have successfully navigated the process of growing and evolving without disavowing their initial vision. THeir latest album Wavering Radiant, released last year, is finely structured, dynamically varied, and melodically developed, it’s also unpredictable, expansive, and densely layered. Every ISIS endeavour is an active listening experience, so don’t miss this show, live at the HIFI, supported by Anonymeye and Axxon. Donate: Kenya

Kenya
4ZzZ is proud to support a Christian orphanage in Kenya that largely takes in children that are orphaned by parents who have died from the HIV virus. Some of the children (aged between 4 and 18) have HIV themselves, while others have been left without parents due to conflicts with neighbouring tribes.

Benson, the founder of this mission was an orphan himself and he wishes to train these children in professions so that when they leave the orphanage they can have a shot at life, just like he once had.

At the moment, a 40ft container will be shipped over to the orphanage in May and we are hoping to fill it full of donations that will help out these kids.

The following items would be particularly handy:
Exercise books, school stationery, farm tools, carpentry tools, sewing machines, material, wool, knitting needles, and simple patterns (these will all help with training for various professions).

Also:
Filing cabinets, towels, cycles, dipers, flannel PJs, underwear, sleeping bags, backpacks, plastic stackable chairs, and collapsable tressel like tables.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. To donate, contact Suzanne Healy on 3252 7300 or 0411 758 030.

Art: Crumpler Sacs Appeal

Sacs Appeal
Crumpler gave ten blank canvases to ten local artists. They got creative, gave them back, and then Crumpler kindly made them into bags. The Sacs Appeal is a live exhibition and auction with all ten bags going under the hammer with the proceeds going towards Jugglers – an artist run iniative which supports emerging artists.

The opening night and auction kicks off on Friday March 5th at 6pm with the auction promptly starting at 8pm. The exhibition will then run until Friday March 26th.

Head to Jugglers Art Space Inc at 103 Brunswick St, Fotitude Valley to check it out.

A personal aide to the US Ambassador in France, James Reese (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) has an enviable life in Paris and a beautiful French girlfriend, but his real passion is his side job as a low level operative for the CIA. A trigger-happy, wisecracking, loose cannon who’s been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack, Wax leads James on a white knuckled shooting spree through the Parisian underworld that has James praying for his desk job. But when James discovers he’s a target for the same crime ring they’re trying to bust, he realizes there’s no turning back…and that Wax himself might be his only hope for making it through the next 48 hours alive.

The Magnetic Fields

The Magnetic Fields

The Magnetic Fields is a New York-based group fronted by Stephin Merritt. Recent albums released under the name “The Magnetic Fields” usually consist of synth-pop music in a 1980s style underlying clever lyrics which are often heavily ironic. While synth-pop often forms the foundation of their music, The Magnetic Fields’ music borrows from many other styles, notably country, folk and indie pop.

We have two copies of The Magnetic Fields’ latest album, Realism, to give away to two lucky readers. To win, tell us what year the band was formed.
